Mystery on the Mississippi

When asked to “theme” a tournament, or any casino event, we have to think of how we can do so most effectively and efficiently. In doing so, we find that creating a cohesive design to tie all pieces together in a visually appealing way is crucial. The Mystery on the Mississippi Slot Tournament is a great example of this, using a consistent design from the Invitation to the Signage to the Ticket Holder containing the Schedule of Events and Drawing Ticket that is passed out at Registration – all of this is tied together using the same creative “look”. We think this consistent theme makes the event more appealing to the players, thus resulting in higher participation.

A media buyer/planner, such as myself, carefully plans his/her strategy to capitalize on the most viable audience… all the while hoping that those eyeballs are a nice set of captive, 20/20 eyes directly fixated on our clients’ messages.

It’s Fall season premiere season (yes, that was done on purpose) and that means big ratings (hopefully), which can lead our clients’ brands to a really nice “push” as the year comes to an end. Let’s all hope for the success of every network and program, as it can build loyal viewership in front of whom our clients’ messages can be shown.

We’ll be watching along with you:

Over 3 short years ago, we developed a key marketing tool that has become an integral part of our advertising and marketing initiatives — email (or, e-blasts as the industry has so aptly named them).

In the month of June, we had quite a milestone that has our agency buzzing. We had the privilege to deploy over 2.75 million emails on behalf of our clients.

To put a little perspective on what that actually means, I give you this:

The total count equates to 91,666 emails sent each of the 30 days in June.

For every second of the month, there was at least 1 email sent. There are 2,592,000 seconds in 30 days.

There are only 2 U.S. cities with more people than the number of emails we sent in June.

Since the inception of our email marketing services, we have developed a product that not only benefits our clients in general, but it directly accents our casino marketing clients — especially the use of barcoding coupons; customer-specific variable information; complete on-the-go reporting; and 24/7 agency availability.

Cheers to our clients. Cheers to email marketing. Cheers to L.A. and N.Y.C. for having more population than our emails sent.

Cue the announcer: Here is our production coordinator Maggie Melancon with a refreshing, summery look. Love that scarf and mix of textures. Her pants have this fun subtle stripe to it too. Work it Maggie!

I stumbled upon this news story over the weekend about a director for a chamber of commerce in the St. Louis area. In full disclosure, I don’t know anything else other than what was reported in the story:

http://www.kmov.com/news/investigates/We-Caught-RCGAs-Dick-Fleming-Hiding-in-Hallway-119765284.html

As a PR specialist, there are so many things I noticed the subject of the story could have done differently! I’m sure you were cringing with me as the story progresses. Even the reporter points out what the subject could have said instead of dodging legitimate questions.

Here are some basic pointers when dealing with the media:

If you refuse to do an interview, it looks like you have something to hide

If you personally attack the reporter instead of answering questions, it looks like you have something to hide

If you can’t talk to them when they approach you, make sure to schedule a time where they can interview you. This is probably the preferred route anyway, so you have time to prepare

Even if the questions are difficult, there is always a way to frame in a positive context for your organization

Hindsight is always 20/20, and it’s difficult in the moment, but keeping calm and sticking to your core message will always be better. The news media can be a very powerful tool to communicate your message-use it to your advantage!

QR codes have been around since the 90′s, but only recently have they been utilized for marketing purposes – which is an extreme understatement. They’re “so hot right now.” Hotter than hot. QR is the new black, so to speak.

With smart phones being ever-present and a culture engulfed in easy access, it frankly just makes sense. After all, QR stands for “quick response.”

As a marketing agency that tries to push the envelope and stay on top of trends, we have been singing the QR code praises for a while now.

These curious little pixelations can be used for just about any casino marketing purpose – redemption tracking, promotional bonus entries, coupon & food offers, hotel room & customer service call-ins, social & web linking, map locations, emailing & contacting, ticket purchase… yadda-yadda-yadda.

I won’t bore you with the ever-ending possibilities, but I will provide some working examples of just “how” and “what” can be accomplished. Give these a scan:

Click to reveal the secret phrase that will win you $5,000! (Not really, this is a promotion example - but wouldn’t it be nice for your customers)
